Thanks Chris. I'll mull that over while giving my dearly beloved hints (sometimes cryptic) for her quick crosswords. Doe marvels for the concentration! !

I never see the RT crossword, but might give it a try. Can any regular solvers tell me if it's similar to anything else around - Guardian, Telegraph, whatever? Thanks.

Hi Malone
I find it quite like the Guardian, my other crossword. The RT isn't available online, though.
One quirk is the grid choice. They never have solutions along the outside squares, so you don't get first letters from 1a and 1d, for example.

Thanks, ChrisE - I might splash out one week, give it a try. I sometimes like the Guardian, but not always!

Unlike some - e.g. Times, Telegraph, Everyman - the Guardian always gives the name of the compiler (as does the FT and the Indy), so you slowly get to know who you like and who you don't like as much.

If you look at the online Guardian, don't miss any that are by Arachne or Picaroon!

I have tried a couple of Arachne puzzles and found them quite tough. I think it was often Paul when I looked online and I don't think I enjoyed the ones I did. Maybe that would change if I tackled them more often!

Paul is usually not one of my favourites, though a lot of other G solvers would disagree.
Arachne's surfaces are always such fun. She can be hard, but often they're not as difficult as some - Enigmatist, Philistine or Vlad, for example.
