I've contrived to fill the grid without working out the duo or the song. Looks like the central column may be a reference to 'me and you' ?

I hope you're luckier than I was muraria. I had to swap all of them.

I noticed that the seven-letter entry in row 6 intersects with three of the other four 7-letter entries, so that started me off.

Most of the songwriting duos I can think of don't have 20 letters (I'm assuming that "and" isn't part of it). The two really obvious ones have 15 if it's just surnames but 23 with first names. The me and you idea suggests that they're the right two, but that's where the brick wall appears. I can't pick out a "thematic" way to find the useful letters in the 20 clues. Top Twenty? 1 to 20? 20 to 1? Grr!

Jockey, I noticed the first 'thematic' clue with a 6/7 answer contains a very strange choice of word...banjaxed. That got me thinking. Does that help?
Having the theme isn't helping me solve blind all these clues though! I'm miles off.

I'm the opposite, lumen, I have the clue entries but not the theme! Something to do with removing a letter ? J axed? Or am I on the wrong path?

I've failed to solve any more for an hour now so help please....eg the one that someone said the definition was 'one of the senses'? -
Sense of disappointment when receiving marks.
Begins S or T I think, (as do most of the senses!) And doesn't have 6 or 7 letters.
Other stumpers are:
Prompt removal of opponents after leader's liquidated. Prob begins with W or Y.
Presents provided in great numbers at last. Begins G, H or I.

I think one answer could be sea lane or sea lanes? But can't parse.
3. Amiable or amicable?
