Struggling with the SW corner. The only term for idiot (20dn) that fits my crossers, is Australian not American. I am also clueless about 24ac.
Any Hints?

The idiot is North American according to Google. It can be read as three two-letter words
24 standard "caught", then a word for "shy" as in "throw"
