Thanks chrise. I would never have got that. I would never have called a great lump of stone like that a vessel. If we are right it is a really obscure clue.

he very beginning of the definition, in Chambers, is 'a vessel...' The answer seems totally fine to me!

I`m still struggling with 4 D. Tried several anagrams , no use. Clue is: Badly organised road continued winding. 4-9.
I have : ? N ? O / ? R ? I ? A ? E. Perhaps I have wrong answers to the across clues ! Any help deeply appreciated ! Mags.

It is an anagram - of "road continued". Your letters are right, though you've missed one off the end.

I would write it as one word.
