10a your T is wrong.
Called for attention is the definition.

10 Cooeed, Coed is the mixed school, 'one' gets disheartened - ie take out the middle letter, N, so OE goes inside Co-ed. Cooee is what you'd shout, it can be a verb.

I started from the end of this thread. If it's supposed to be (conventionally!) hints, I'm sorry for giving the answer.

Thanks for this. Funnily enough I thought it was coed with oe, but couldn't see how to make a call for attention. And I was misled by my wrong T. I think I have 8d now but cannot parse the second half.
