Hi Griffin and Chrise
I'm still stumped on 24ac and 20d. I have an answer for 19d, but can't parse it. I don't think ive got 14d right yet despite hints. My opera loving husband denies all knowledge of a word for bass arias.
For 24ac I have ?E?T???E?T, but I'm not sure about first T.
Backward glance sees traditional religious order originally in esteem (10)
For 20d I have ?O???N for Can Oriental money reduce restraint (6)
Chrise, what has Malaysia got to do with this?

24a your first T is wrong. A hint has already been given.

20d see previous hint.

Malaysian refers to the oriental money. (I didn't check it either because the definition worked).

Thanks Chrise
I re-read your hint about 14d, this time properly so filled in the right answer. Then I got 24ac. I still can't see 20d, but may sleep on it.

If you google Malaysian money you can find the last 3 letters.
Then go to Quick Solve at the top of the page and put your crossers in.
There are only a few possible words and you should get a pennydrop moment.

Thanks Rossim.
I had googled Malaysian currency, but got something like Ringring, but I did get a penny drop moment and googled the last three letters of my guess to find it is one hundredth of the Ringring.
So all done apart from 1ac for which I have S?R?P?. I have an answer, but can't parse it.

First letter of one word + a synonym for the last word in clue.

First two words are the definition.

I'm baffled, and Quick Solve doesn't find a match, about 7d, Look into oxtail soup, fishing out one amphibian. I have A?N?O?I. An amphibian? I also have taken the Forum's word for the final I, since I can't figure out 15ac. And for 23d I have a common word for a rental contract in my L?A?E but that gives me no bridge opponents or field, so could the L be wrong? I'm very eager to know the answers.
