It's done, but with little satisfaction. IMHO this crap is not worth a hill of beans! :-)

Jazzgirl @ 56. My reading of 17 down was school being the definition and auditorium being a homophone indicator for alternatives to story, see and them.

I agree Cas. I had the homophone, but should have spotted auditorium as the indicator. (Lyceum can also be a theatre and the Greek one was a gymnasium)

Welcome to Clueless, our informal weekly clue setting competition.

The idea is to compose a cryptic clue to a given word or phrase.

The winner of the previous week's competition sets the word to be clued and judges the entries for the current week.

The judge's decision is final and reasons may or may not be given at the judge's discretion. It is customary for the judge to award a virtual prize to the winner.

Multiple entries may be submitted and new competitors are particularly welcome.

Clues should be submitted by 8pm BST on Wednesday, 27th of September, with the winner to be announced shortly after.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASED PARSE YOUR CLUES! THANKS

Crossroad

Have fun.

Hi all,

I've got everything except the meaning of the last three words of the clue below:

3d. "Chaps on Thames maybe having a fixed period in overcrowded city" (8). I have: ?a?e?m?n, and the seemingly obvious answer, but I must have been staring at it for too long to finish the parsing.

Thank you in advance.
