Yes, it really is 24 despite saying 23 above the clues! A good one this week. I even had to resort to Chambers to check the answer to:

1D Dance with officer until I get on (9)

Around 40 minutes for regulars but may take a little longer.

Favourite clue:

10D Port cubicles built by state-funded division (6,6)

Yes agree with you there John. Manage to do it in the car whilst hubby driving to Salisbury. Best clue 15a. Was stuck on 3d for a while though.

Hi John
Just finished and it was quite a test this week. Took me just under an hour.

I liked the clue " Green Biscuit" (7)

I've just finished it [in about forty minutes or so] and agree with you, John, as I had to reach for a dictionary too.

Really enjoyed this one - which, after weeks (months?) of carping, came as a pleasant surprise. Can't list the favourite clues/answers as the entry is already in the post!

Hi All,
Managed most of the anagrams this week, which helped to the others. I cannot put the girl's name
at 7 across c?r?l to 'fit' raid. Cannot do 6 down
with ?r?i? - my little thing gives 57 five letter
words that fit there but none seems to associate
with Boers: perhaps my 8 and 11 across are wrong
for the r and i, but I know guards and fish and my wife uses make-up.
Would appreciate the words later.
Thanks.

Hi flipper2law,

You seem to have gone wrong with 1d and 2d! 1d is the word that had us reaching for dictionaries and 2d is what I thought was an obvious answer. So, on that basis, you should have *O*A*. Now, if I tell you that Ms Ripley has this forename and the accepted abbreviation for gold is OR...

6d Boers built... You need to take the even letters starting with 'O'. And, as an aside, if you ever see oddly...

Regards,

Caravaggio
