I implore all forum members to watch this highly witty and beautifully played tv show which was on BBC last night. Wonderful insight into workings of a crossword compiler.

It was described as a "comedy". Was this intended in the Shakesperean sense - i.e. no laughs?

thats probably because the two main players are very much associated with comedy eg, League of Gentlemen, Benidorm etc. I suspect the morons at the BBC just saw the cast and described it as a comedy. Very dark i'll admit but thoroughly enjoyable.

Witty and clever ... yes, but I gave up watching at 26 mins.
Way too dark and gory !

I watched it too, I enjoyed it probably because of the plot-line but not enough to stay with the series overall.

Yes it did get a bit Hanibal Lectery towards the end, #hidbehindsofa

Watched it last night and yes it was well scripted to show how we solvers go about solving, however, the clue which had the anagram indicator in the middle of the fodder was what would be deemed as unfair in real crosswordland, thoughts?

Squires admitted he hadn't parsed it properly, that 'wild' was wrongly placed and that it was merely an illustration.

I enjoyed it. It reminded me of the Tales of the Unexpected that I used to watch in the 80s.

I remember Tales of the unexpected rossim. Still remember the music (I was a kid then)
I also remember Armchair Thriller which I think was in the same genre, am I right?
