Well, I thought I knew some odd mythological stuff, but thanks to Chrisg I now know some more.

I'd come across the Crown of Solomon (thanks to Charles Wiiliams' "Many Dimensions") & there's some other allusion I can't quite remember in Kipling, is a new one on me.

I should add that, once again, I'm having a devil of a job entering anything in this as the PC keeps losing its grip on this site!!!

I now see "spin" as having two meanings in this clue. If that is so, then I am a bit happier.
