Thanks ffannie, what I got from the guardian website was a completely different (and useless) grid. They have a month between puzzles to get it right and they get it wrong almost every time.

Difficult to say too much without spoiling the fun of the penny drop moment...Paul doesn't give much away in the preamble...in the solutions that are changed a word (only part of the soln) with a positive/negative connotation becomes its positive/negative counterpart before entry...the resultant entry is usually a different length and not a real word...
