I'm assuming that the setter is the person who came up with the recent "Tace is Latin for candle" as some of these seem to be on the same level of obscurity - 2D comes to mind immediately!

However I struggle onwards but would welcome help with a couple in the hopes that these solutions would assist with the remainder :

17A - Part of body of dead bird, perhaps a tragic part (8, 3)
E???R?A? ???
&
50A - Overheard wine-drinker's declared preference for area of UK (4, 2, 5)
???? O? WIGHT

I think these are correct but would appreciate help with the parsing.....

15a Wife of Douglas? Outspoken Salford native is she? (9) - MANXWOMAN?

I think this is a homophone but i can't think of what. Also, Salford is Manchester and Manx is IOM so what's the def?

2d Smart newspaper, working to cover book and film (6-2-2-7) - SUNDAY GO TO MEETING (Smart)

5d Is unfaithful by supporting cardinal (3-5) - TWO TIMER (Is unfaithful)

If TWO is the cardinal, why is TIMER 'By'?

20d Coil on sink is security measure (8) - LOCKDOWN? (Security measure)

I get DOWN for 'Sink' but why is 'Coil' LOCK?

48d Writing material evidently having run out, grunts (5) - OINKS (Grunts)

I can see INK but that's it.

Douglas , IOM - hence Manx Woman

then sounds like

Salford, Manchester - Manc's woman

Manc is slang for a Mancunian.
