17a looks like essen(tial) ... in grid as SEN ..... why not just SN I wonder?

Indeed it should be SN - similar issue with 1dn ending 'ENT' not simply 'NT'. Frankly I am finding this a very poor Listener - a good idea but not consistently executed.

I think 7 could be NEIGHS but don't see the Tom bit. Am also stuck on 33, my last one.
