I find this setter very difficult. Stuck in NE corner.
12a will help. They blow up both sides - died from grenades exploding. I have --L---E-S

Take "died" out of "grenades", then anagram it with "both sides"

Don't care for this one at all. Never liked the Simpsons, but that aside still way too many gimmicky, contrived, clues to be enjoyable or satisfying.

All done (at last!). But cannot parse 26a Question published in book (5) with enough accuracy to determine the first vowel. The answer has, AFAIK, alternate spellings, identical, apart from letter 2. Any help appreciated.
Agree with various sentiments re style of clues. I don't care much for themes, even those I have an interest in.

I took QU to be the "question".

it's ROW TEN reversed, in front of K

Better to give the clue, grannyl

Read backwards, it is K ROW TEN.

K from Krusty. I took "row ten" to include the esat numbers specified, if they were in pairs (though this wasn't indicated). There may be a better explanation.
