angst

As someone who normally finishes the Genius over the course of a week or so and with some not inconsiderable help from these forums, I must say that I found this slightly above a Rufus in terms of difficulty and by far the easiest Genius so far.

Having said that, I have been stuck on my last clue, 3D - Perhaps Lewis released initially wicked criminal? (4) - for a day now and can't see it at all - any hints gratefully accepted.

Also, re 24D, I am sure my answer is correct and I can parse it up to a point but I can't see the "upright slab".

Help, please.

As usual, having posted asking for help, the penny dropped.

I still can't work out how to parse 24D.

I am also struggling with 27A (Leave lodging somewhat sequentially 0 have life? (4,3).

I have an answer which can mean to leave lodging but I cannot see what the words "somewhat sequentially" have to do with it.

Help please.

Angst: there is an alternating sequence which gives a word meaning "lodging"

I think this is one of those crosswords where one is not 100% sure

24d is straightforward - standard letter for caught in a slab rising. Not sure about 17 meaning "lodging" - the consensus seems to be the first four words are the definition ...

Like others, I expect much more from a Genius.
I've done every Genius since they first appeared and this was possibly the most disappointing.
Having said that, 19d:-
I said "contract",fool (3)
Has an obvious answer, but can someone please explain why?

sid48 - think what you do with your brows. I too have completed every genius - I believe correctly - and never won the prize!

Thanks prospero.
Assuming 300 correct entries per crossword, after 150 crosswords, the probabilities of winning the £100 (if you submitted every month) are:-
0 times 60.6%
Once 30.4%
Twice 7.6%
More than twice 1.4%
So most are in the same boat as you.
