Apologies for not reading your additional comments prior to clueing and posting. You're the judge and it's your call but I have to say I'm surprised as Chambers gives "the container" as a definition.

Yes, ginge, I was aware of the use for the can - but I'm afraid that it's just wrong! ("Aerosol can" is fine; dropping the "can" is laziness.)


This Wikipedia article (which goes into far to much detail for most!) explains correctly what an aerosol is.
