the other possibility that rh might have been thinking of for the bee car is definitely not a car - it's a military armoured vehicle

Hi chrise
Yes - the 'car' I was thinking of is described as a smaller, civilian version of the military vehicle.
If I'm wrong what else can it 'be'?

PS I know there is an old British make of car that 'fits' the crossing letters - funnily enough it has a 'B' in its name but I can't see how this would work.

No one has mentioned the ones i am having problems with: 18a - ?e???e?d and 21a - d???a?s?m I can't find any words that fit, let alone parsing them.

The 'm' from the latter comes, of course, from 20d, which is controversial, as whether it is a car has been questioned. However, there is a civilian version, for those for whom a 4X4 is still not monstrous enough. An alternative that fits has been mentioned, but I can't think of one, except the old Hillman Hunter, which is a model, not a make.
