Thanks pkd - that confirms what I thought. I had a number of answers that would fit the game theme but others that seem to have nothing to do with it. So the statement:
'Solutions to clues 1-20 are in a sequence which, if specified, would give the game away' has got me puzzled; I assumed this meant all numbered clues were relevant to 'the game' - am I still missing something?

I should have said it's the numbers that are the key not the clues or the answers themselves (although many of the answers are thematic). If you think of what you are aiming at it should become clear

I got really excited for a moment there and thought that if I put my answers in the sequence of their clue numbers as they'd appear in this game, all would be revealed. Unfortunately not, so answers such as 12 and 13 are still confusing me.

On the point of packing it in. Taken up too much time already.

Imagine the grid is the thing you are aiming at. There are 20 entries that touch the edge of the grid. If you number these in the same sequence as the thing you are aiming at and then enter the answers ( downwards, backwards, upwards and forwards as you go round) they will all fit eg answer to 12 will go where you have just put the number 12 (in this instance downwards). Hope it all checks out ok.

Certainly a very clever idea!

Thanks pkd - I had 'the game' sussed quite early but found the instructions confusing. If it had said:
'Solutions to clues 1-20 are TO BE ENTERED in a sequence which, if specified, would give the game away'
it would have been clearer.
