That's good, rusty. Yes, as far as I know you should be able to download to all devices registered on your Google account. I've got mine running just fine on my phone and Nexus 7.

Any update on when Chambers 14th edition is due? Would that be the next one? I have seen mention of the phone app in this old thread but am more interested in the print edition.

My existing copy is 1998, the days when it was the official Scrabble dictionary (before that accolade went to Collins). The 1998 version doesn't seem to mention an edition number.

The 2003 edition is the ninth so I imagine that the 1998 version will have been either the seventh or eighth.

My print edition is the revised 13th edition which was published in 2016 and I think is the latest. The previous 13th edition was 2014 so it does appear an update is due. On the website there is a free pdf of ‘missing words’ which I assume are words added subsequent to the latest edition. You could try emailing them.

Revisiting this thread after so many years just underlines what good value the Android app is. I don't know what it costs today, but I bought mine in 2012 for £4.99 and it has regularly updated itself ever since. Works brilliantly.

Yes the Chambers website makes no mention of a new edition (the 14th). Understandably so because it may be difficult to commit to a date, and also they are still strongly advertising the 13th edition. You can see different prices all over the internet but the Chambers website has the 13th @ £27 and the 12th @ £24. Not much difference.

I am waiting to spend some ancient book tokens. They don't have an expiry date but I am not confident they will work

Having asked Chambers about the timing of the 14th edition, I’ve just received a reply from them which reads...

“Thank you for your email. We are planning a new 14th edition to be released in 2022”

Thanks for this good news, jono@38.

I have several book tokens, at least twenty years old, which don't have an expiry date. If accepted, they will cover the cost of a 14th edition of Chambers, so it's worth waiting for. My current edition is the 9th.

I know I could get it on my phone, but I still prefer a print newspaper and a solid dictionary.

Gerba's comment on the Spectator 2581 thread prompted me to search for a Chambers thread, and bump it.

My BRB is also in serious decline. Noting Jono's report we are running out of 2022 with no apparent progress.

A commentor on the Amazon page says that 2023 will see the new edition but I'm not going to get my hopes up!

More sticky tape Gerba for you and me!
