Good morning, Elle!
Had heavy rain but it's trying to brighten now.
Had a fair bit of surface water on the roads, when I was out earlier.
I have avoided the forecast!

Hello, Ros!
I am afraid that finding a holiday residence that will accept cats is nowhere near as simple as thatI
Most letting agencies- even if decreed "pet-friendly" - will only take dogs.
They have a blanket policy that states " no cats".
They just dismiss any alternative request out of hand.
We have found in the past that it is only possible to negotiate terms if we can establish contact with the owner his/ her self.
I am looking into this...….
Raining here...what is it like with you?

I googled "Cat friendly self-catering accommodation" and got this-

https://www.homeaway.co.uk/info/holiday-ideas/inspire-me/cat-friendly-holidays

Whether such people are also dog friendly is another matter!

It's sunny here. I am off to the opticians soon. The DVLA is currently not renewing my licence, but I have no idea why. (They have not removed my licence, which is still current) They have sent me to my GP, but I am not to make the appointment for 7 working days. Anyway, I had an eye test 6 months ago and was fine then, but am having another to make sure.

Hello, Ros!
Thank you, that was very kind of you......but yes, I had already tried that!
I had Googled " Cat friendly, self contained, self - catering holiday accommodation in Swanage" ...and got the "Homeaway" reference , plus others.
But when further researched, there is no actual mention of cats being allowed on a property....
It will say "pet -friendly", but then state however many dogs are allowed!
I am waiting on my daughter's visual report on those three properties in Swanage that sound plausible on other fronts.......and then, if deemed suitable, I shall see if I can somehow contact an owner.
I have never heard of such behaviour before from the DVLA?
My husband is older than you, and has never been referred to the GP or opticians, regarding renewing his driver's licence?
Perhaps this is a new regulation, recently come into being?
I guess it does make good sense......
Anyway, I hope you manage to sort it out satisfactorily.

Hi, Rusty!
Oops, I am sorry...I had missed your post....it wasn't there when I first replied to Rosalind....
The posts must have crossed!
Yes, it is now beginning to brighten up here, too.
We had really heavy rain first thing ...but the forecast for the remainder of the day is now good.
I have had a brief tidy up now that my daughter and grandsons have gone out to see their friends.....
And we have cooked spaghetti bolognese for dinner tonight (it will only require heating up) which we shall have with a green salad....
So we are all organised!
And so can now - metaphorically at least - put our feet up and relax!!

I had to fill in a medical form (though I have said before that I had had a head injury, and told them about it). I have just returned from Boots optician and she says (apart from possible very early glaucoma, for which she has referred me) my eyesight is good with specs and I am absolutely fine to drive. I think maybe the DVLA are worried about the fact I was knocked out for about 40 minutes, though it is 8 years ago come November! BP 122/68, no problems of any sort. At least they pay my GP!

Was in Swanage in May, elle. Great place.

I'd be tempted not to tell anyone about the cat!

Hi, Rusty!
We are just home again.....
The day brightened up considerably, after the rest of the family had left to visit their friends, so I decided that we didn't really need any R & R..... and so, after a light lunch, we decided to go out walking!
It has been glorious out, and much cooler than yesterday, thank goodness.
The others were back home before us!
Right, time now to organise the food!

Hello, Elle!
It is a fine afternoon here!
I think it is a bit cooler, too.
I have been dealing with paperwork today.
Most of it is finished!
You have athletics on BBC at weekend.
European Team Championships.
Sad news from Poland.
A young Belgian rider, Bjorg Lambrecht, has been killed in the Tour of Poland.
He crashed, and he died later in hospital.

Good evening, Rusty!
Thanks for the lowdown on the Athletics at the weekend.
I do not have next week's TV guide as yet.
I shall look forward to the European Team Championships.
That is terrible about the young Belgian cyclist being killed in the Tour of Poland.
It is certainly a risky and tough sport.
It is their families for whom I feel sorry.
They must feel under such pressure knowing how dangerous it can be?
A friend of ours, who was a fireman , had his wife eventually leave him because she couldn't cope with the fear of what one day might happen to him, risking his life so often in horrendous circumstances.
He loved what he did.......and felt called upon to do it.
Life brings up some odd circumstances, and some strange decisions.....
Younger daughter has just phoned......they are all enjoying their holiday!
