Hi, Rusty!
Just as we have here!
I hope Miss L-B is only going to the dentist for a check up and is not needing repair services?
My husband has to go back next Friday for a replacement filling - some decay was detected by the hygienist on his last visit.
I am about two-thirds way through the puzzle.......
I like to be systematic, so I tend to stick with a clue till I've solved it, in the order in which I come to them.
So far this morning, I have learned that "shaw" is a "small wood".
My favourites so far are 1a; 12a; and 17a.
Right, onwards......

Ooh, that was rather a put down , Chris!
but then she did aspire to her police commander being a poet!

Hello, Elle!
Yes, a check-up for the young one.
I have not looked at the puzzle yet.
I know "shaw", though.
There is racing at Cheltenham on TV today.
I shall look forward to that.

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, I have finished my crossword!
Well.........nearly, that is......
I cannot do 27a?
I have ?L?R?S
And in 21d; unless I have made a mistake, I think "hog" is supposed to mean "motorbike"?
I have checked in Chambers and Bradford's...but to no avail......
Otherwise, I think I am "home and dry"!

"hog" for "motorbike" is Hell's Angels, slang, I think - or was it Easy Rider?

Hello, Elle!
Great stuff!
You have finished early today.
I have not started mine, yet.
But, just for you, I have a look at the ones troubling you.
"Hog" can be a motor-bike.
HOG is an acronym for Harley Owners Group.
Harley is a make of motor-bike.
Now the other one is relatively straightforward if you know your Roman deities!
"Evil Looks" is the definition.
"G Lares"
G for "good" and Lares are the Roman deities.
OK?

Update, Elle!
I have just completed the puzzle.
I thought it was a very good one.
Well done, the setter!
I liked 9a, 12a, and my favourite is 18d (setter had me lost for quite a while on that one!)
Off to collect Miss LB, then home for the racing.
And I may pop in to the jammy doughnut shop on the way!

Hi, Rusty!
Now, I would never have come up with "HOG" as an acronym associated with Harley Davidsons!
I'd have been there till Kingdom come, trying to work that one out!
And "Lares" as Roman gods is also new to me!
Thank you so much for coming to my rescue.....especially ahead of your own solving!
Yes, "aerosol" as "mister" was a good one in 18d........quite an unusual slant to the clue, wasn't it?
I liked "Brahma" in 23a...... but had to check on "Ba" as soul.
I hope Miss L-B gets the all-clear at the dentist...
Does she go to practice where you go, and her pal works?
I'll have a jammy doughnut, too, and be round for afternoon tea!
Just taking the dog out first, though.......
Hope the racing goes well......any bets placed?

"Easy Rider".....my, that's going back a year...or two....
Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper......

Hello, Elle!
Just home.
All OK with Miss LB. No, she goes to a different dentist.
She is very pleased with herself, and her car passed MOT test yesterday, too.
No bet today.
I just wanted to see one race in particular.
The "cross country" race.
They are fairly rare, but Cheltenham has a cross country course.
In Ireland they are called "the banks" races.
Punchestown has a great banks course.
Nina Carberry is very good in them, but she is not at Cheltenham today.
