Hi, Rusty!
I didn't even know of the musician in question , and was happy enough when I worked out "Suppe", from the parsing of the clue , just to put it in the grid!
I only learned the guy's full name just now when reading your message.
( I didn't bother to look it up - I should have done, I know!)
Had I done so, I would have thought, like you did, that von Suppe was his surname?
Remember the von Trapp family? and the von Trapp family singers?
I don't think that they were ever referred to as just "The Trapps"?
But I cannot offer that with any authority.
I knew of Jocasta.......and funnily enough came across "tempura" a short time ago.
I think Barry might have referred to it on "Eggheads..
Barry is a keen fan of anything Japanese!"

Hello, Elle!
I do not know of von Suppe, too, Elle!
I was thinking of the rocket scientist Wernher von Braun.
Think he always got his "von".
But Anne Bradford lists him as Suppe, just.
So, it must be OK?
And surely Mr R would not blunder two days running?
I take your point about The Trapps.
Just does not sound right.
I would have guessed "tempura" to be a kind of paint, by the sound of it.

I used to do a lot of Japanese cooking. One meaning of tempura is lightly battered deep fried food (prawns, vegetables). The batter is hardly even mixed, but is delicious.
On the cookery course there were more men than women!

Hi, Rusty!
I did not think of checking for (von) Suppe in Anne Bradford's....but have just taken a look now ...but cannot find him?
Whereabouts did you look?
I first of all tried under "Musicians"?
And then even under "Suppe"?
But to no avail.....
No, I take your point...... surely Mr R would be extra careful about his accuracy!
It is raining heavily here!
One very wet dog has just returned from the garden!

Hello, Ros!
I must admit to never having eaten (let alone cooked) Japanese food.....no reason really,
Somehow, it just never happened!.

Hello, Elle!
Franz von Suppe was a "composer", that's where you'll find him in Bradford's.
Between "Spohr" and "Tosti".
Not heard of those two lads, too!
"Suppe" is German for "soup".
It is still dry here, but not warm.

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, but you see, I didn't know that he classified as a composer!
The clue said "musician", so, in my ignorance, that is where I looked!
Under "M"!
It seemed logical to me........?

Hello, Elle!
Ah, but you see, do not composers write music?
So surely they could be said to be "musicians".
Chambers thinks so!
Look up musician, do?
And remember it is the setter's job to lead you astray, so he/she won't state the obvious.
I wonder what Mr R's merrie men and women have in store for us tomorrow!

elle- I have lots of the proper plates, chopsticks and little bowls for sauces but never bother to cook Japanese any more now, even though Tesco stocks the ingredients like nori (seaweed) and teriyaki sauce. It is usually delicious but fiddly. I did once go to a fabuous Japanese restaurant in Bath where there was a fire (I think) at the centre of the table. They brought a platter of delicious ready-prepared food and you cooked it yourself!
Hope your husband is recovering well, you must be very worried

Tempura is delicious, and I was lucky enough to be with a tour group to Japan in 1975. We were taken to the House of Tempura in Tokyo where we sat (crossed legged) on the floor as was the custom. We chose our vegetables and sea food and they were dipped in batter and cooked by the hosts in front of us.
