I am having difficulty parsing 1 down, would appreciate assistance.
Area in a slow-moving boat up country (9)
I think the answer is a country in Central America bordered by Mexico to the north and west, the slow boat being a tug but need clarification if anyone can assist.

Could slow moving be "lame"?

I think the slow moving = the four letter word, reading backwards towards the end of your answer. Area is one 'a' and 'a' in the clue is the other.

Thanks Rusty & Malone, Ithink you are correct It now makes sense a lame tug would be slow moving with the a of area. Thanks the pair of you

Glad we could be of help. I'm not sure of the conventions associated with some crosswords, so was trying to be slightly elliptical/enigmatic!

7 ac A very clever clue. Had me fooled for some time. If you need help it is the name of an inventor of a mathematical toy puzzle popular in the 80s

Thanks wally - I was just about to ask.

Odd mixture this week - some lovely clues, others requiring pretty specific knowledge.

I haven't fully parsed 14d
Learning to concoct rude thing, before first turning (9)
I have the def. and the first 4 letters, but don't see where the rest comes from.

..and 19d
God-fearing liberal officer has gone (5)
I have a word meaning "god-fearing", but don't see the rest (my answer might be wrong here!)

Any suggestions?

If the officer is a CO, removed from a word meaning liberal?

As you say , anagram of 4 letters - then a 2 letter word for a 'thing' - then 'first' (think numerically) turned.
