Thanks, stumped, for 8d parsing, ans sciopojo and chrise for 7d. Chrise: an e ending is an accepted variant, apparently.

chrise: re ''hats off/of" - you are of course right that 'hats of' doesn't work as a surface. My problem is that 'hats off' doesn't really work mechanically (if that's the right word) so that correct cluing has been sacrificed to surface. I'm no Ximenean, but this strikes me as a step too far. It's a personal thing, of course!

Thanks gaperon - I thought that "the sky" just gave the "hidden"; in fact, removing "thy" isn't really needed, is it?

15D - think waist (centrally....); £s = Ls; 10 = ten; covers (noun) is definition.

Old solver - archaic term for "you".
