Completed, but can't parse the solutions to 7d and 8d.

Me too, though it's not very entertaining - just thinking of what might fit after the 3,2

for 8d a = per

7d hors = outside....and that's as far as I've got

I can see a plant going upwards, but shouldn't it end in A?

gaperon: my query is with 'hats off' which suggests to me removing the first letters rather than using them. Just makes the clue a bit unsatisfactory, for me at least (and chrise too, I think).

Yes - "hats of" would do, but would alter the surface.
