There's now a form on the Grauniad website for submitting the current "Genius" solution. One has to type in each answer individually in the list provided, and add an e-mail address. Back to the steam age, but it seemed to work, as I received a message to say that my submission had been sent, although, then again, knowing the Grauniad........

Hello Anyone...
I am quite new to the Guardian Genius crosswords, and have only done a handful.
Trying my first one, I needed help, and discovered this forum. Reading other people's messages, I managed to complete it.
That worked for my first four attempts at these Genius crosswords. Usually over a few days, though as I would subsequently discover not always 100% correctly!
This one though has had me stumped for several days now over just one clue: 22A "Modernist poet initially with promise to back more traditional poet"
I think I have the 5-letter answer, as it fits with my three intersecting letters. It is a specific type of poet, but I am unable to parse the rest of the clue. A further complication also arises for me when adding the extra letter, as my extra letter would need to begin the 6-letter answer (preceding my answer to the clue), and I have discovered two words that could fit (beginning with either C or M), so perhaps one of these is not included in whichever the 'governing' dictionary is considered to be? Or perhaps I have just got it all wrong!
Can anybody help me please?

Here's the parse:

modernist poet initially = TS (Eliot)
promise = I DO
to back [reversal]
more traditional poet [def]

The surface read gives it away, re the missing letter, as the first word is a def of the new answer.

Thank you very much syzygy.
I'd considered the TS, but hadn't managed to see my 'ODI' as a backwards 'I do'!

I have just started this month's Genius only to find that the announcement regarding the online submission problem has cancelled out the special instructions for completing the grid (I am assuming there must be some). Having read the comments, am I correct in assuming that each across clue requires the addition of a single letter and that those letters in order spell out a quotation or partial quotation from 1D 5D?

I have all the down clues except 20 (any hints more than welcome) but am struggling with the following across clues - 8, 10, 12, 13, 19, 21, 25 - most of them in fact...

Having got 20D finally, I have now got the quote which hopefully will make the across clues a bit easier... I'm sure I'll be back.

OK, I'm done I think but I cannot parse 8A (other than the word "charge") or 21A (other than "camp").

Also I cannot find a reference anywhere to the main part of 1A meaning highly acidic - I think I must have the right answer, though...

Finally, while my answer to 25A must be right and I know what the word means, how does it relate to the flipping bit of wood (I can create an image of how it might but have no idea if that is the right image).

All clarifications gratefully received.
