dscutler, your I beginning 20d should be a C, and the rather archaic answer for 13d involves an anagram of mother around ERF. Not sure how that's a whistler...

I have an answer for 8, but haven't fully parsed it - definition "flying".


2 is weak - it's a name of a (well-known) Tory who shares his surname with an author.
