That is what I had but have you been able to parse the wordplay.

The note is ME and ARNS are the alternate letters of the word given!

I had the me (note) plus the ar (the first pairing in Kinc-ar-dineshire) but I still don't see where the ns comes from. The ar are consecutive letters and therefore constitute a pairing. N&S are alternate letters but not a pairing.

Stuck (or gone wrong). I have only two left - 37a and 43d - but I still have to fit in another character and I can't find one to match the letters I have. Any hints?

Just seen 37, and that's not a character!

So I have the work at 10d (that was my way in), and characters at 13 - 16,41 - 21,15 - 30 - 42 - 45 - 46 and 31,4 . Where is the last one, please?
