(Neither of the obvious quotations seem to fit!)

chrisE - its in odq - it's the first words of the book i think. (Have you got the book - it is the best known one)
Colon - "11" - refers to clue 11 (there is only one 11)
then next bit gives the "across" numbered clues and then the "down" numbered clues

I have M?a?n? and want the answer to end in ns but I only see ne as the second pairing in Kincardineshire.

Any thoughts someone, please.
