31 Newton follows star Greek mathematician. (5)
I've found an ancient Greek sculptor called MYRON (not apparently a mathematician, though), and a star called MIRA or sometimes MYRA. These obviously don't quite work together. Is it compiler error, or do I need to look further?

This one definitely IS compiler error!
14d Philosopher espied larks about to get insects (10)
I'm pretty confident about my answer, and they aren't insects!

You haven't indicated letters in place.
Pedantiser ?
Philosopher instead of insect?
espied + ant ? anag.
Wild guess on my behalf.
Cheers

Sorry, busby. I've solved it, but they are myriapods rather than insects.

That's great Chris.
I tried to google Pedantiser and all I got was French websites, that I couldn't understand.
Glad to see you have solved your question
