Sammy -- you don't have to type in your email address. Just type one letter (I personally favour 'x' for its air of mystery).

... and sometimes if you're clever you can double post without even trying!!!

I take it from your answers that there is no way of being permanently logged in, so that the system would automatically recognise you and you could post without having to type in user name or letter for e-mail. Okay.

now that's getting really technical.

Nope. However there are some compensations since you can use any name you like. You will notice in some threads the occasional appearance of names such as "Richard Head" AKA "Please call me Dick", "A Pedant", "S Knott" etc.
