I'm stuck on a few up top. And 26ac. I know it must be a 12 but I just can't get it.

The "sponge" bit refers to begging/borrowing rather than bathing.

Ah! Got it. Thanks Chris. Any hint on 24ac? And 1ac? And 3d? If I get those then I'm all done.

24 is a lovely clue. Two "sees", one after the other. It's a 12

1ac It's IN SURE rather than INSURE

3d Friendly Isles. Hidden word.

I got 1ac and 3d - thank you so much for that.

For 24ac I have E-Y-E- and still can't get it.

Will keep plugging away, but further hints would be much appreciated.

Thanks Chris.

Last one is 17ac. I know Greedy Kite has already given a pointer to this but I'm still not seeing it:- '...Having skimmed the fat say' (-t-e-).
