Got the parsing on 26 now - I was trying to do the substitution the wrong way.

Hi everyone,
I'm just back from my hols and struggling a bit with the latest JE. However, I've seen the challenge. Very clever, Les.

I've been waiting for comments to start, so I'll start the ball rolling.
I loved 6ac (AB), 40ac (Ixion), 5dn (Ixion again)and 48dn (djawhufc).
I could tell that 54ac was by aristo without checking - the pronunciation doesn't quite work like that in England (you weren't to know!)

Perhaps a bit of a spoiler...
chrise: Most people over here pronounce it as you do. I happen to live in his neighborhood and can tell you that his own family pronounced it just the way I clued it; it was an attempt at Anglicization. We do, however, pronounce the homophone differently too, with a long O in the second syllable (the short U pronunciation isn't considered standard, though some true Yankees [New Englanders] use it).

Divided by a common language again, aristo!

I still have not completed the whole crossword but I have got all the themed answers. How Les worked out 17a I shall never know. Surprisingly, 1d was the last solved!
