Hi chrisg
I don't think I would have spelled 19d like that, but both spellings are in Chambers.

Back safe and sound. ChrisE would you really have put an O in 19d answer ? Perhaps I have the wrong word

Yes I would, jazzy, but it comes from plant names. Look up "Stinking Iris" (much prettier than she sounds!)

Thanx 4 posting, Jazzy! Only just joined you after a long walk & picnic at 5,000 ft with perfect visibility in the highest of the Pyrenees! Thank God the puzzle was a walkover after that!

Raymond - take a three-letter word for a number of items in a line, reverse it and add an anagram of "crashed" to get a kind of puzzle.
Yes folks, I'm still here!
I've finished but as usual I struggled, unlike many of you it seems - smartypants!
I got 3d early on but I still don't fully understand the clue. Would anyone like to explain please?

Hi ChrisE. I don't understand where you are coming from on 19d. I have Fe Ti d which is the symbol for Titanium inside Fed (given) - fetid being stinking

Hi Night Owl The parsing for 3d is the chemical symbol for Carbon + on (appearing) + what apparently our ancestors used to live in which is also an obscure word for "look out" - definition being curving inwards

Chrisg. Fetid is the answer but ChrisE prefers the alternative Foetid .
