Thanks for the explanation.

@rosalind

BBs are pellets (usually round) for air-rifles

The ones shaped like shuttlecocks are a later invention for greater accuracy.

RAIT, RET, RATE are in Chambers for "soak".

Rosalind: Perhaps we use the term more often over here; I used BB as "shot" in my clue. When I was growing up it was every red-blooded American boy's dream to have a BB gun. :)

We used to play with 'Sekiden' guns in the UK in the 50's/60's. They fired plastic pellets shaped like ball bearings (possibly the term of 'bb')

Ah, that explains it! Am not a red-blooded American boy, nor knew/know any!
But I'm not likely to forget what BB's are now.

I think I've spent longer agonising over my choice of favourite than constructing the clue....
Runner up - Rosalind @15
My choice this week is Redundantelf @14 (although the groan-inducing #4 deserves something: not quite sure what, though!)

Everybody has voted before the deadline!
Eight of your clues definitely got one vote each.
red'elf got two votes for #14
les got one vote for #10 plus another vote for either #10 or #8 (thea?)
rossim is this week's runner-up with three votes for her #20
The winner is ixion with five votes for his #22

One of Warren Beatty's birds perhaps, not claiming DSS...yet.

I'm afraid the prize is, almost inevitably, Chas & Dave

Congrats ixion - great subtractive anagram

Thanks to GK, Kiwikid and particularly, ixion, for the votes. I hope that my entry at 21/33 wasn't too rude :)
