Oh, and I was pleased a Quetzal appeared (and nice clue) because I've seen one. Beautiful, staggering colour. It was a set-up, of course, the forest ranger having focussed a telescope on one. It wasn't a stuffed toy, though, as I saw it ejecting a whole avocado stone , as they do.

Many thanks to everybody taking part and Les in particular for the hard work.
I managed about 50% partly due to a lack of time and partly due to a couple of errors.

Must try harder

Postscript to parsing on 29a as clue was changed;

final explanation of wordplay is

Tennis player = Graf
providing = if - backing = fi + to

(if anyone's interested...)

A triumph, les - many thanks to you, and also to AB for sorting out the explanations (I assume), and to all the setters.

Tell me more, chris: I come from Chichester! Where did you eat? Just been entertaining a cook from Lavant (just north of the city). Yum! Yum!

Hi GK
We stayed in the Premier Inn in Chichester - surprisingly good, and we had a great morning shopping in the town - wife in particular was impressed by the disproportionate number of dress shops!

Wedding venue was Farbridge, near West Dean - basically a couple of converted barns, but all very well done.

I know West Dean, but not Farbridge: looks wonderful on their website! Oh for the beauties of West Sussex & the South Downs! You almost make me envious! Glad you had such a great time!
