I see two pesticides are being banned for two years because they cause brain damage to bees. So that's why I can't do this puzzle!

Thanks again! As I'm not religious (to put it mildly) I had completely forgotten that Francis. The penny has finally dropped on the meaning of carrot. I've even been going through "the Vegetable and Herb Expert" looking for varieties. Durrrrrrr. I thought 13a was very obscure; I could have done with Wee Jock's advice on that.

I'd not heard of (or maybe I'd forgotten) 13d apart from the place.

I'm hopeless this week...mst be the pesticides.!
Reallyt stuck on 1d, 2d..(have this ending in an 'i' am I right, or is 16a not what I think it is..?) 23a also puzzling me...!
At least the sun's shining and it's WARM.! Do you realise that we've only got about 7 weeks before mid-summer..(when the days get shorter..!) "It's being so cheerful that keeps me going..." (Anyone beside me who remembers Tommy Hanley..?? Creak..!

Yes, raymond, 2d does end in `I ! First three letters `cold` also means uncooked. A city in India.
I remember Tommy Handley - heard a round, bakelite Ecko radio (wireless I should say) !! Magw.
