Brilliant guys and thanks Tony for the very kind remark (I remember). Nice to see you back here.
ab and dja 5/5; Rambler 4/5. Well done Jazzy [a police fan? :))], Trevor and RE.
I'll provide my working although no real need:-
1. snuff initially = s; dry = wipe; s + wipe = SWIPE = steal = pinch
2. relatives = aunts; very active beginners = v + a; a(va)unts = AVAUNTS (obsolete = of old) = boasts.
3. anag (another treatment to) of “anoint ear” = ARENATION = remedial application of (hot) sand (Chambers D)
4. it’s “in” there! LATHI = a long heavy stick used as a weapon (Chambers D). Additionally ‘lathi’ is of Indian origin and Simla (or Shimla) is in India.
5. (cryptic) LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION
Bless you all
See you next week
John
