gk: 'And the same guy still buys the only copy of the G. before me every time I drive 30 miles to a little shop that has it !'

How frustrating! Can't you get the shop to order two?

I used to find (back in the pre-Berliner days) that if I ordered a copy of the Grauniad at a hotel, I would never get it, but I would find a copy of the Time or the Telegraph outside my door, on the grounds that, "It doesn't matter - it's the same size" - !!!

In 24ac, the attendant is a character in Anthony and Cleopatra.

Or to be more accurate, the "attendant on queen".

I think 24ac goes: savers > attendant on queen > flag > discord, Greek > Greek region > essayist

So he does, ixion! And then the detectives lose their 'privates' as it were, and that's 1A finished. Thanks for clearing that up.

24A. OK, so ISA = Individual savings account.

So:

ISAB
ISAS
IRAS (attendant to Cleopatra. Good luck to everyone who knew that!)
IRIA = flag

Stuck (again)

But that's a good start.
