I have just come across the perpetual clue chain thread. What is happening? Does this mean our Monday afternoon game has been abandoned? If so, what thread was the discussion on to make this decision?

Hi bobs mum
Rambler started the thread, so I hope he explains what he is thinking of.

It was a bit of a flop, really!

Morning chrise,

I thoroughly enjoy Monday afternoons, therefore, i would like to hope that it will carry on as normal - i suppose there is room for a perpetual thread and the 'fixed' one on Mondays. I would have preferred a vote/discussion on this instead of a takeover.

What do u think? - i know we r low on numbers but the regulars r very loyal.

Good morning

At the end of our last CLUE Chain I made the comment that I did not think the game was popular. One or two folks commented that it was only the timing that stopped their taking part.

I started PERPETUAL CLUE CHAIN with simpler rules to see if people would play and as chrise says, with the exception of ixion and chrise nobody did.

Of course the Monday game has not been affected although if the other game had taken off that would have been open for discussion.

Please forgive me for muddying the waters - the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

No harm in trying, rambler, but people didn't seem interested. I think there are only one or two - pastille, for instance - who would like to take part in "Clue chain" but are prevented by its timing.

I think we should attempt to continue with our Monday afternoons and see how things progress. Last Monday was a lovely day, so that might have had an effect.

Hi rambler,

thank you for the explanation. Yes i saw the comments made last week re timing issues. The way i see it is... that between 1 o clock and 6ish there is on average 6 people who play, perhaps popping in and out but usually about 100 posts during that time. This tends to fizzle out at 6 as most have to get some grub going myself included. I think it was pastille who said she loves clue chain but cannot play in the afternoons ---- my suggestion is that an evening clue chain could start on a separate thread for those who wish. That may prove v popular especially for the night owls.
I wonder also if we could have a recruitment drive to encourage other users to join in. I know that a misconception of clue chain is that it is 'high brow' and too intense --- perhaps we could aim to dispel this.

What do u think?

I personally would be less likely to participate in an evening session.

How would you suggest advertising Clue Chain, bobs mum? I suppose the introductory text could be made more encouraging for new participants, but if they have already decided against joining in, they probably wouldn't read it. Perhaps a "recruiting thread" alongside the first Clue Chain post might be the way to go?

To be honest I'm pessimistic and I started the other thread to confirm my doubts about more people wanting to join in. I think chrise is right to continue on Mondays for as long as folks want to play.

The first (or possibly second) time I joined in, there was a protracted and learned follow-up discussion of one of my clues (for TITIAN), which I found a bit daunting. However since then I have found discussion much more openly friendly and relaxed, and I look forward to Monday afternoons accordingly.
