I set crossies just for pleasure. I wonder if some of you excellent regulars would like to try a few of my clues? Since they're new, no letters!

2. British builders came first, second and third in trips to find clumsy American people? (11)

3. Learned ladies put insect in preserves (8)

4. She's tutored to understand technical elementary educational tips (5)

5. Do cancelled trade-offs upset a newspaperman? (7)

Tricky! So far I only have something for #1, and even then I can't parse the last word. I'll keep thinking!

I've made a dreadful error in no.1. Please ignore it for the moment while I try to re-clue. SO SORRY![1]

I have an answer for #4, but it doesn't seem as difficult as I expect from you - I expect that I'm missing something!

Don't worry about it jolan - though I admit it was puzzling me.

Glad something is wrong with 1 as I was getting nowhere.....got 5) I think!

Here is the (quickly) amended version. Hopefully no more errors. I'll start checking the rest straight away. A bad-hair day? I hope not! J

I put in an occasional "easy" one from time to time. Hence no. 4 today. Hope your original no. 1 was correct. The answer is the same as the erroneous one. J
