Er, what's up with some of the clues? It's hard to know if there's a misprint or if it's some devious setting, e.g.

10A is a 10-letter answer but it gives (6,4,11)
3D is a 5-letter answer but it gives (5,8)
29D has (4)(4)

There aren't enough of these to match the special instructions, so I assume they're just errors. Any ideas?

Doh! Just noticed that there are other clues linking back to these three - it just doesn't say, e.g. '10, 18' as it usually would when followed by '18 See 10'.

"Private Eye" was probably being prophetic with its allusive description of the paper as the "Grauniad"

Livs - you've unwittingly, I imagine, given one of the solutions in your second post. I haven't solved many clues so far, so thank you.....

Good fun as you might expect from Paul...the only misprint as far as I can see is an extra (4) at 29D

Or is the misprint at 29A, which says it has 8 letters? As 12A merely says "See 29 (4)," this could relate to a misprinted 29A or 29D.

Pendragon (and others) - this was what I thought from the version I printed off at about 11am - but it's now been corrected to show that 29ac goes with 12, and 29d stands alone at 4 letters.

Great theme - just the little words to get now.

Thanks, cmk. I hadn't refreshed. It doesn't help knowing that some of the words (which?) are not in any dictionary and don't even make sense. And the little ones are the worst. I have eight 4/5-letter answers and one 7-letter word to do.

Martin, I'd read all the clues so maybe something was working away in the back of my brain! I didn't realise till I had a second look at the crossword - but I still can't find the shilling in that one (or is it the ug?)

I have 14A and a fair number of answers but I can't parse a couple at all, even with the answer! And I don't see why someone says answers aren't in the dictionary: are there different sorts of 14A, because the only one I've got & can parse is 24A - is that really one or is it just a strange clue?

Sorry, I mean 24D and it was pendragon (can't look back when replying).
