Think of the author involved here, and the opening of one his novels that involves London and Paris - two cities.

I did think of deadlight but my dictionary says it only exists in the plural. I got sidetracked thinking of the dog called Bullseye, which does tie in with the theme.

I'm just stuck on 27d - K ? R ? E ? L . "one among kings to distinguish German corner." Kirtell or Kartell fits but I can't find any meaning to those words.

Don't quite understand your question:surely the Italian word has both meanings in the plural? Otherwise I've made a mistake, and the envelope is already on its way to Birmingham!

Bit late, I know. I'm sure that 11d is Beadle - d from died but what about Beale? Or am I on the wrong tack here?

Also can't quite explain 2d as Swiveller - git the SW1 bit but not the rest.
