Another struggle. Down to the last three:

27a: *e*s*e c*r**Missing letters ?HILLOW;
4d: K*p*e*. Missing letters ?ELS;
19d: *e/*o**. Missing letters ?dllm.

Was "ashman" correct for 2d? I can't work that one out, either. I found this puzzle unsatisfactory, because a large part of the content of all the clues was irrelevant.

Any offers?

In 27ac, your second e shouldn't be there. It will have too many letters. Otherwise, your letters are right. Anagram of a breed of dog.
4dn: no s
19dn: not ll
If you've got 16dn, you've got the theme. Google it and 2dn (and others) will become clear.

peterm - thank you. All is clear. I'll have to start watching more TV.....and doing fewer crosswords. I'm even less impressed by this puzzle now, as it's impossible to complete without use of the internet and/or intimate knowledge of a TV programme. I couldn't imagine Araucaria resorting to this. Nul points, as they say (on TV).

a bit slow getting through 99 until got theme (show is seen in Oz , only on paytv).
