Terry - glad sudokulover came to the rescue as I found it difficult!

I've filled in every square - now stuck with working out the preamble! 'In eight clues,cryptic indications omit...'- where do I start?

If you can see 2 or 3 of the "missing" letters in the cryptic clues you are halfway there - one clue has 2 letters missing. The highlighted letters are all together going N to S. The resulting 10 letter word is another 23a.

Have you "picked" out any of the missing letters?

Yes, I've got it now - part of the problem is my awful writing, even worse than usual when I'm working on a rough copy, printed off on my pc.Thanks.
