Have been wrestling with this one clue for ages -help!

(I'm not certain of the 'e')

(I've been trying anagrams of 'mater'+ 'o'(duck) and 'mater'+ 'n'(new) but have got nowhere.

Chase - where did the "M" come from in 12d - I have realm for 15a? (ream - lots of paper with "L" lecturer inside) Could well be wrong though!!

Your 'realm' is maybe better than what I had - 'reams' (loads of paper/ re a ms - it seemed logical at the time, but is probably wrong as 'realm' makes better sense!) Will go back to 12 Down.
