I, too, am stuck on 17ac. Could Hell's Angel be BIKER? 3 of the letters would fit with those already checked, and there would be a k to drop, but I'm clutching at straws.
Thank you Fearsome. I have been trying to make an anagram with biker, grie and ave for some time. I can't think of a wine with anything like that collection of letters. Like you, I've already spent more time on this than the rest of the puzzle
17 across is causing me problems too. Any idea why it it has a letter count (4,7) which differs from the number of spaces, whereas the other 'tipsy' answers don't. Is that a clue?
I think it must be an anagram of the letters bikergrieave, because after removing one, the rest fit as prescribed in the spaces. Must be a very obscure vintage!
I was wondering that. I have four clues to go (as I'm not confident about 10A). but only three special words, so 17A may not be one of them. It certainly doesn't look like it.
