i did a similar thing except from the neck up(honest)including eyebrows - wow, you look v weird without eyebrows - and this was when i had long hair.

I can understand why your wife found this funny.

I feel bad admitting it, but a large amount of my "giggglebank" is full of my husband either hurting himself or similar.
