I'm familiar with the Financial Times. Major US periodical here, but never saw it referred to with just the initials. Thanks for clearing that up.
Now that niggling problem with 30D. Does the Guardian ever answer requests for explanations like that?

I see the code tags work. The word Links was in bold, but what's with the square brackets!? Is there a new syntax for HTML, or is this unique to this site?

Maybe not.

Unless I'm missing something, this site doesn't appear to support embedded links anymore. Ran several tests. See threads titled "HTML test" posted by "z".

Give it a try and let me know.

I don't think the Guardian does. Some publications do give annotated versions, but not here. You could try their crossword editor - he does reply to emails. Did you read his current monthly letter re Araucarias's 90th birthday celebrations?

With 39d, I was trying to make it all read vertically.

Post #43 should have been at #39.

Chat in 1980 was more advanced. You had a split screen & didn't get these crossed messages. Back to the future!

Obviously there's a problem with the HTML code for links -- they only work for the home page part of the URL. (I haven't looked at your HTML threads yet, zardoz.)

12d somewhat overenthusiastic - to this high degree - could the answer be NOH? Why?

No, not noh. The answer is contained within the word overenthusiastic.
