Hi , I'm new to this site but not the Speccie crossword which I've been doing ever since the Listener was put down. Just finished this week's, quite tough I thought but I'm writing about the 2000 solution in which I've shaded the wrong letters in Mr. Magoo's crossword. I chose TC for topcat - am I alone in this?

Hi vinsculler and welcome to the site.

I can see why you highlighted TC (top Cat) as it would fit grid E's theme of cartoon characters, but the overall theme was 2000- hence highlight MM of Mr Magoo.

Tricky this, spent ages on 23ac. Favourite clue was 24dn,camp old lady, made me laugh.

Got side-tracked for ages by putting "tangelo" in for 1ac. Seemed to fit in so well.

I'm having trouble with the SE corner. Know nothing about 'surfers', 'jars' or even 'skirts', I regret to say. Can any kind soul provide hints rather than answers?
